I've been promising pictures of the corset, so here you go.
Right: a picture of the bottom of the stomach section of the corset showing the jute cord. I should have taken a picture when all the ends were sticking out, it looked like alien fashion with the plastic cable ties waving around.
Right: Close-up view of the jute cord in the channels. In order to fill the channels well, I used 4 cords per channel.
Right: Close-up view of the lacing holes. These are a royal pain in the rear to do, but the end effect is more authentic and extremely strong, even for tight lacing. The center hole is the style I prefer to do. I have to work more on keeping the stitches even as I go around the hole.
Only 16 more holes to do *groan* But this is a nice portable project to take to A&S and fencing practice with me (I go along while Ken practices with the others). It is also a good thing to work on while watching TV in the evenings.
So, tomorrow, after marking 20 papers, tweaking a design project and working on a job cover letter, I plan to make my Spanish veil cap out of black velvet with a lining of deep red silk-satin. The neat thing about that is it is really just a half circle -- easy peasy! Down the track I may put some gold braid or beading along the straight edge just for some 'bling', but for the first wearing I'd be happy just to have it finished. :)
